The 'Trinity Welcome Home Project'

"Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, to all the souls you can, in every place you can, at all the times you can, with all the zeal you can, as long as ever you can" - John Wesley

What is the 'Trinity Welcome Home Project'?

Many people in our local community are experiencing hardship on a daily basis due to issues largely beyond their control. The Trinity Welcome Home project is a new initiative of Trinity Community Initiatives - it is our way of connecting the Trinity congregation with people who are struggling to cope. People who might benefit from the project include: people with physical disabilities living on their own; families facing poverty and disadvantage; migrant workers and their families (including people not entitled to benefits); those experiencing mental illness; teenage single mums; isolated older people; kids coming out of care; and homeless people.

Who will be helped by the project?

The project is 'starting small'. We are seeking to help people from local homeless hostels run by charities move into new homes. This includes people from Simon Community and Women's Aid projects. Our future plan is to work with social services who will refer people in need to the scheme.

How can I get involved?:

The project is seeking your help in 3 ways:
  • Buy and donate some extra food and household items: We have become a partner of the Storehouse Ministry of Belfast City Vineyard Church. Each year, Storehouse distributes around 1,500 bags of food and other items donated by churches to people experiencing poverty in the Greater Belfast and Lisburn areas. Could you buy an extra item or two each week (non perishable foods) and donate it to the project? In the foyer you will find a supermarket trolley where you can leave your gifts. A list of suitable items is given overleaf.
  • Donate furniture to the project: Many of the people we are seeking to help are starting from scratch to furnish new homes. From time to time we will make an appeal for particular items of furniture, white goods and other household items. We cannot promise to collect and store items on an ongoing basis - but if you do have furniture items to donate (and they need, of course, to be good quality!) then let us know and we may be able to find a good home for them!
  • 'Sign up' to be a member of a Trinity Welcome Home Work Team: Many of the people we are seeking to assist have few friends and have lost contact with their families. We are planning to provide small volunteer work teams to help individuals in need on an occasional basis. Work projects might include: cleaning and clearing houses, tidying gardens, small decorating jobs and helping individuals and families to move into new homes. This volunteering is likely to take place mainly at weekends and possibly on weekday evenings. If you would like to be a member of these teams see below for how you can find out more and 'sign up'.
